The two Ministers highlighted the significance of the visit in the context of the celebrations marking the 200th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Brazil and Sweden in 2026. During their bilateral discussions, they addressed matters of mutual interest in the field of defence and underscored the importance of the strategic partnership between the two countries, particularly in the areas of aeronautics and innovation.

The Ministers expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved in bilateral cooperation in the field of aeronautics, a strategic pillar of the partnership between the two countries. This cooperation is based on the strategic partnership established in 2009 followed by the contract between the Brazilian Air Force and Saab, signed in October 2014, which supports the modernization of the Brazilian Air Force's capabilities through the acquisition of 36 Saab Gripen E/F fighter aircrafts, as well as on the Letters of Intent signed by representatives of both countries in Natal, Brazil, on 9 November 2024, and in Stockholm, Sweden, on 16 September 2025.

Both countries reviewed the concept of a new framework for technical and scientific cooperation through the establishment of an Innovation Center dedicated to the development and prospecting of new systems and equipment applicable to the operation, maintenance, and upgrading of Gripen aircraft. In this regard, the initiative will contribute to strengthening the Brazilian Defence Industrial Base by expanding technological capabilities and supporting the development of highly qualified human resources. This initiative will be in addition to ongoing cooperations and collaborations.

Furthermore, the Ministers highlighted the ongoing initiatives aimed at negotiating an amendment to the contract currently in force, as well as the acquisition of an additional 20 Saab Gripen E/F fighter aircrafts, in order to meet the requirements identified for Brazil’s national defence.

The Ministers also welcomed Sweden’s decision to acquire the C-390 Millennium aircraft, recognizing this initiative as another important milestone in bilateral defence cooperation and in the strengthening of the strategic partnership between the two countries, particularly in the field of the aerospace industry.

The Ministers welcomed the successful cooperation between the two countries in the fighter aircraft and tactical airlift aircraft programmes. They also emphasized the significance of the rollout in Gavião Peixoto in March 2026, of the first Gripen aircraft ever produced in Brazil.

In addition to this historic milestone for both nations, the Minister of Defence of Brazil and the Minister for Defence of the Kingdom of Sweden highlighted the significance of the rollout of the first F-39F (two-seat) aircraft on 2 June 2026, produced by Saab in Linköping, as a further milestone in the growing cooperation and integration between Brazil and Sweden.

Minister José Múcio Monteiro Filho and Minister Pål Jonson reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close cooperation and further strengthening the strategic partnership on defence related topics between Brazil and Sweden.
