Fredrik Reinfeldt and Carl Bildt received US Secretary of State John F. Kerry
On Tuesday 14 May, Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt and Minister for Foreign Affairs Carl Bildt received US Secretary of State John F. Kerry in Stockholm for talks. Discussion points at the meeting focused on current foreign policy issues, including the developments in Syria, the possibility of stepping up the Middle East peace process and the international community's future engagement in Afghanistan. They also discussed the negotiations on a free trade agreement between the EU and the US.

The Prime Minister received Lithuania's Prime Minister
Today Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt received Lithuania's Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius for discussions. The agenda for the meeting included discussions on Lithuania's preparations ahead of the EU Presidency in autumn 2013, economic crisis management in Europe and bilateral issues between Sweden and Lithuania.

Today, Tuesday, Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt received Prime Minister of Thailand Yingluck Shinawatra for talks at Rosenbad. Their agenda focused on the bilateral relations between Sweden and Thailand and their future development.

Fredrik Reinfeldt to participate in Northern Future Forum in Riga
On 27-28 February, Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt will participate in the Northern Future Forum in Riga, Latvia. The Forum, which brings together the Nordic, Baltic and British prime ministers, first met in London in 2011 and held its second meeting in Stockholm in 2012. The topics of this year's discussions are how to make a green economy more competitive and how to bridge the digital divide in society.

"Annual review of human rights in the EU is imperative"
The Norwegian Nobel Committee will today award the Nobel Peace Prize to the EU for its contribution to peace and reconciliation in Europe. Minister for EU Affairs Birgitta Ohlsson welcomes the prize but adds that we must not take peace and democracy in Europe for granted.
"My most important political goal as Minister for EU Affairs is to introduce an annual review of EU Member States' compliance with human rights," she says.
"The EU needs a budget for the future, not for the fifties"
Tonight the Presidency proposal for the next long-term EU budget (MFF) came out. Minister for EU Affairs Birgitta Ohlsson comments:
- It is unacceptable that the common agriculture policy is protected from cuts. Nearly 40 per cent of the EU budget is still earmarked for the CAP - a sector employing 5 per cent of the labour force and contributing only 1,5 per cent to EU GDP.

Speech by Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt at Stockholm+40
On 23-25 April 2012, the Government hosted the international conference Stockholm+40 to commemorate the first UN Conference on the Human Environment held in Stockholm in 1972. The 25 of April Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt gave a speech at the conference. In the speech he mentioned the framework document Sweden and China have agreed on.

European Council 8-9 december
On 8-9 December, Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt participated in the European Council summit. The economic crisis dominated the discussions, which resulted in a strengthening of economic cooperation between the euro countries through a forthcoming intergovernmental agreement.

On Monday 12 December, Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt received this year's Nobel Peace Prize laureates: Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, Leymah Gbowee from Liberia and Tawakkol Karman from Jemen.
